Hori is fishing for interest in the ultimate accessory for Treasure fans. This proposed Radiant Silvergun arcade stick aims to replicate the arcade on Japanese 360’s when the game hits XBLA, assuming Hori gets enough pre-order interest to put it into production between now and January 4th. Keep in mind it will set you back 13,500 Yen, which I’m led to believe currently works out to just over $160 USD.

I suppose one could justify the purchase based on that being what a Saturn copy of the game could cost at times, but loving Treasure can often be an expensive affair any way you slice it. On the doubleplus good side of life, we get Radiant Silvergun next year too, I remain ridiculously happy about that.

Your Holiday Dose of Xbox LIVE Arcade

Xbox LIVE Arcade Holidays
As if scoring another exclusive chapter to the Dead Rising saga wasn’t enough, Microsoft has three other titles hitting LIVE between December 22 and January 5 at 800 points a piece, complete with some character crossover to loosely tie all three together for the holiday push – not exactly breaking news, but I figure it’s worth a reminder.

Kingdom building returns when A World of Keflings hits on December 22, Half Brick Studio’s Raskulls arrives on December 29, and ilomilo rounds out the list on January 5 – assuming you haven’t already gotten your mitts on that last one via super secret early promotion, which still seems to be generating codes, though they don’t seem to work anymore.

Hard Corps Uprising
I’m not really a screenshot kinda guy, and the latest batch for Uprising offers very few – however every shot that emerges this year testifies to Arc System Works’ mastery of visual pop, and that once again seems worth a nod.

I continue hoping we won’t have to wait too much longer to be seduced by the actual release, but in the meantime you can catch some freshly frozen glimpses after the break.

Love Notes – X-Men Arcade

X Men Arcade
Konami’s 1992 side-scrolling beat ’em up is one of the few arcade games I hold a great deal of nostalgic love for. Buy me a coffee sometime and I’ll regall you with stories about loitering near any building that housed the game, from the last of the arcades in my area to the seedy poolhalls that later served as poor but functional substitutes.

Konami was able to turn anything into a beat ’em up back in the day, from the Ninja Turtles to The Simpsons, but only The X-Men had six glorious arcade sticks jutting out of an over sized cabinet that cried out for my quarters – so it’s safe to say that I’m pretty stoked to see the game hit XBLA and PSN this week.

An extended dose of Double Fine’s Costume Quest releases for some, with Grubbins on Ice releasing for Xbox LIVE Arcade today at 400 Pts – sorry PSN fans, you have to wait until December 21 when it releases for $4.99.

While PlayStation owners sharpen their knives over that, the 360 crowd can visit the universe of Repugia, complete with new costumes like the ziplining pirate, eyeball, and Yeti, as well as eight new battle stamps and eighteen new creepy treat cards.

Review – Guwange

Cave’s bullethell blast from the past hit Xbox Live Arcade with all the trimmings this week, plus a few features I wouldn’t have anticipated. Running through modes and stages, I can’t shake the thought that Guwange would make a spectacular Wii title. That isn’t intended to veer completely off topic, but has just been floating around in my brain while tackling the core of this game – controlling two physical objects on screen simultaneously.

Each of the game’s three playable characters is linked to a shikigami, an entity that player’s can summon at their leisure, and also one that each character seeks to free themselves from, the driving bit of narrative beneath the barrage of bullets standing between the player and that goal. At first this can result in several shades of retina overload, keeping track of two objects on-screen while Cave’s fine sprites vanish beneath the chaos of color changing bullets and loose change, until survival seems like sheer luck while pushing the analog sticks of the 360 controller in all directions. But a one size fits all difficulty setting, generous screen display and co-op options, as well as three modes to suit all possible tastes should help the uninitiated quickly discover an elegance at work that speaks to Cave’s well earned legacy as shooter royalty.

Review – Costume Quest

Costume Quest
I’m doing my very best to wear out the word nostalgia while writing reviews this month. Mind you, I’m not complaining that so many releases seem to be tapping visuals and controls that take me back to those earliest memories of clutching a controller in my hands – and began the era of my parents trying to wrench them away from it to occasionally get some fresh air.

While Costume Quest wants for the word nostalgia, the digital release hits a different pocket of memories with the childhood recollections of suburban existence. In time for Halloween, the game revolves around that one magical night each year when we stumbled from house to house collecting the candy needed to fuel a power fantasy preceding those offered by videogames, imagining ourselves to be the very characters we tried to mimic beneath an awkward mix of plastic and cardboard.
