Gamesugar’s Sonic Colors Coloring Contest!

Sonic Colors Coloring Contest
One of my most pleasant surprises in the last week has been the discovery that overall, I enjoy playing Sonic’s latest outing on the Wii, which I’ll likely give more words to shortly.

In the meantime however, we seem to be in possession of an extra copy of Sonic Colors for both the Wii and the DS courtesy of Sega, and the Holiday spirit compels us to offer them to you, assuming you’re up for an artistic challenge that is. Our favorite guest artist, Kyatt, has created a hedgehog masterpiece very much in need of a splash of color, so we need you to color Sonic in, the full image can be gotten right here.

We’ll leave it to you to decide whether you want to use computer paint, or color Sonic the old fashioned way if you have a scanner at your disposal.

The important part is that you write either Wii or DS on your entry to let us know which copy you’re after, and that you email your entry to sonic@gamesugar.net by 11:59 pm est on Sunday December 12, 2010.

Well draw and announce two winners the following week.

Good luck!

PSA – Fluidity Hits WiiWare

Fluidity
Curve Studio’s form shifting title releases today for 1,200 points, and anyone curious about the game have no excuse to be left behind since Nintendo has also offered up a demo for the release.

Somewhere between playing as a pool of water that can transform into steam and ice, and tilting the WiiMote to affect events on screen, this feels like a splash of what Sony often hoards with titles like Loco Roco and PixelJunk Shooter – so fingers crossed as usual.

Catch some short video of the game in action after the break.

Hey Kids, It’s Gamesugar’s First Birthday!

Gamesugars First Birthday!
Hey Sugarfiends, can you believe it’s been a year since we set off on this expedition into the gaming wasteland together?

Yes, one year ago today, with little more than a copy of Clash of Heroes and the strange compulsion to keep spewing words about these videogames, Gamesugar was born, and hastily cobbled together, mostly out of construction paper, macaroni and glitter.

While producing a year’s worth of content owes something to my being a stubborn ox, it owes much more to those people that jumped aboard to help, either by directly contributing to articles, tackling background work, offering moral support during my many mental breakdowns, attending events near and far, and genuinely being awesome.

To all of those people: Thank-you, I’ll save you the biggest piece of cake today.

Binary Domain

Binary Domain
Sega’s robot science-fiction action title from the maker of Yakuza is an odd kettle of fish, at least based on the first trailer floating around the net today, which oddly plays heavy on the North American squad-based shooter only to slide into a bit of the potentially bizarre twist that insinuates a deeper objective at the very end. Most of the video is plenty parts “send in the killbots,” caught somewhere between The Terminator and I, Robot, begging to be viewed as a predictable attempt to please the North American marketplace at the moment.

Toshihiro Nagoshi’s included pitch in the PR offers a few potential reads,

“What I wanted to create this time was a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama,” commented Toshihiro Nagoshi. “The keyword we have in mind for this project is ’Life’. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”

Sega mentions this idea of life having an important role with the battlefield AI, but does this also mean we should anticipate environments pulsing with life, or expect a plot ever heavy with philosophical drippings layering over a generic “me too” shooter? Your guess is as good as mine, all I know at the moment is that I wouldn’t have minded them “Ghost in the Shelling” it up a bit.

There really isn’t a lot to go on here without actual gameplay, so we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime you can catch the current trailer after the break.

More Dead Rising 2 in December

Dead Rising 2: Case West
Capcom announced that the Xbox 360 exclusive Case West addition to Dead Rising 2 will be releasing in December – word on what day is still lacking.

Teaming Chuck with Dead Rising’s Frank West offers access to Frank’s camera for all your photo taking needs, along with new combo weapons and items. Perhaps more importantly, Capcom mentions that players going through the game solo will take control of Chuck, while Frank will be AI controlled, a mode in which Frank cannot be killed. As for deciding who gets to be Frank in co-op mode, I recommend rock, paper, scissors.

Cave Story
For those gamers eager to hang with the Mimiga on their DSi, Cave Story hits DSiWare today and will set you back 1,000 Pts for the mobility.

For those that have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, Cave Story is also available in WiiWare demo form today, so if you’ve been living in mystery, there’s absolutely no reason not to get learned on the subject.
