I’d like to thank everyone who entered our swag contest last week, few things make me happier than hearing people talk about their experiences with games, and I earnestly enjoyed reading through responses that reminded me how lucky Sega is to have the fans it does. The downside is there can only be three winners this time around.

Hey there kids!

This week I’m catching up with the zombie filled streets of Sega’s latest Yakuza game, and though I’m not quite finished grinding through the horde, I do have a chance to offer fans an opportunity to score some Dead Souls swag, courtesy of Sega of America.

Sega’s gone a little cosplay crazed, so three lucky people have the chance to win a prize pack consisting of Goro’s signature eye-patch, Shun Akiyama’s necklace, a dragoon tattoo sleeve, and a pack of Yakuza playing cards.

All you have to do to enter is hit up the comment section of this post between now and 11:59pm est on Sunday April 1st, 2012 – and tell me why you’re a fan of the series. If you’ve never played a Yakuza game before but find yourself curious now, you can alternatively tell me what sparked your interest. Greetings Sugarfiends!

It’s time to announce the winners of our Ys I & II Chronicles Contest!

Last night, at the start of the wolfing hour, the Gamesugar crew ascended to the peak of a nearby mountain, placing the entries into a ceremonial bowl atop a stone pedestal – along with offerings to the forgotten Gods of old.

It wasn’t long before the clouds swirled overhead, and the faint sound of thunder grew in the distance until we were convinced that the nearing beat bore remarkable resemblance to the guitar riff from Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills. Suddenly bolts of lightning struck the stone, forever etching three names into the splintered remains.

Congratulations to Radical Hair, Elatia-Rashiad Langford and Charles Sabers – though both Elatia-Rashiad and Charles Sabers need to drop me a line via jamie[at]gamesugar[dot]net since we don’t have your email addresses.

Gamesugar’s Ys I & II Chronicles Contest!

This is the week that Xseed Games wraps up their PSP Ys trilogy, with tomorrow’s release of Ys I & II Chronicles serving up a retro dose that includes a bonus soundtrack with the retail version, which Xseed has dubbed the “Hair Metal Pack.”

Xseed’s whole hair metal kick got me thinking that some of you out there are probably pretty “metal”, and as is the tradition around here, we’ve got a few codes for a digital copy of the game courtesy of Xseed – three codes to be precise – so here’s the deal…

Hit up the comment section of this post between now and 11:59pm est on Sunday February 27, 2011 – and tell or show us why you are, in fact, Metal.

Since that’s open to wide interpretation, we’ll spend the following Monday combing through the comments to find the most entertaining and ridiculous responses in order to crown three winners with a digital copy of the game.

I want to thank everyone that took up our artistic challenge and sent in an impressive amount of spins on Sonic.

Bitey the Contest Hedgehog dropped in to give us a hand judging entries, and after many long hours it has been decided that Maria P is the winner of Sonic Colors for the Wii, and Peter Kimball is the winner of Sonic Colors for the DS. Maria’s attention to detail really seemed to win the judges over, while Peter’s complete subversion of the original image was hard to ignore, and a little frightening.

Gamesugar’s Sonic Colors Coloring Contest!

One of my most pleasant surprises in the last week has been the discovery that overall, I enjoy playing Sonic’s latest outing on the Wii, which I’ll likely give more words to shortly.

In the meantime however, we seem to be in possession of an extra copy of Sonic Colors for both the Wii and the DS courtesy of Sega, and the Holiday spirit compels us to offer them to you, assuming you’re up for an artistic challenge that is. Our favorite guest artist, Kyatt, has created a hedgehog masterpiece very much in need of a splash of color, so we need you to color Sonic in, the full image can be gotten right here.

We’ll leave it to you to decide whether you want to use computer paint, or color Sonic the old fashioned way if you have a scanner at your disposal.

The important part is that you write either Wii or DS on your entry to let us know which copy you’re after, and that you email your entry to sonic@gamesugar.net by 11:59 pm est on Sunday December 12, 2010.

Well draw and announce two winners the following week.
