Gamesugar’s Sonic Colors Coloring Contest!

Sonic Colors Coloring Contest
One of my most pleasant surprises in the last week has been the discovery that overall, I enjoy playing Sonic’s latest outing on the Wii, which I’ll likely give more words to shortly.

In the meantime however, we seem to be in possession of an extra copy of Sonic Colors for both the Wii and the DS courtesy of Sega, and the Holiday spirit compels us to offer them to you, assuming you’re up for an artistic challenge that is. Our favorite guest artist, Kyatt, has created a hedgehog masterpiece very much in need of a splash of color, so we need you to color Sonic in, the full image can be gotten right here.

We’ll leave it to you to decide whether you want to use computer paint, or color Sonic the old fashioned way if you have a scanner at your disposal.

The important part is that you write either Wii or DS on your entry to let us know which copy you’re after, and that you email your entry to sonic@gamesugar.net by 11:59 pm est on Sunday December 12, 2010.

Well draw and announce two winners the following week.

Good luck!

PSA – Fluidity Hits WiiWare

Fluidity
Curve Studio’s form shifting title releases today for 1,200 points, and anyone curious about the game have no excuse to be left behind since Nintendo has also offered up a demo for the release.

Somewhere between playing as a pool of water that can transform into steam and ice, and tilting the WiiMote to affect events on screen, this feels like a splash of what Sony often hoards with titles like Loco Roco and PixelJunk Shooter – so fingers crossed as usual.

Catch some short video of the game in action after the break.

Review – Disney Epic Mickey

Disney Epic Mickey
The Wasteland is a refuge, a place where forgotten cartoon characters can live on within Junction Point Studios’ heartfelt tribute to the house that Mickey Mouse built. Freed from ownership by Universal Studios, even Oswald the Rabbit can find new purpose in this place, acting as both mascot and ruler for this world, providing shelter for his fellow ‘toons while obsessing over the popularity of Walt’s favorite son.

The sincerity drips from every digital brush stroke, and remarkable seems like a word worth using to describe the amount of attention given to the details. Junction Point has created a living, breathing world for characters few players are likely to readily remember. But the devil in those details is whether this labor of love offers an opportunity and incentive for players to truly immerse themselves in this world, or if this epic undertaking merely offers a lightly pulsing museum, one which assumes that the care of content can counterbalance significant design problems, which Disney Epic Mickey unfortunately offers in spades.

If this quick appraisal leaves you making a sad face beneath your Mouseketeer hat, join the club.

Refresh Rate – Devil’s Crush

Devils Crush
The Wii’s Virtual Console is one of the most versatile “selling points” of the three current generation consoles since it offers, as is my case, a gateway into one’s childhood at an affordable price and grants an opportunity to relive the 80’s and 90’s in all of its pixels to single shade polygons splendor. And don’t say an NES game is too expensive at 500 Wii points – remember the actual price of an original NES cartridge back in the day?

Now with an introductory paragraph in the usual review style out of the way, let me tell you a story about a young married couple that one day found themselves immersed in the claws of a harmless, even charming looking videogame.

Review – Donkey Kong Country Returns

Donkey Kong Country Returns
Marathon playtime with a casual audience caused one observer to remark that I was more boy than man despite my age, which possibly owed in some small part to the fact that I’d begun banging my chest after surviving a particularly hellish level.

Two straight days in the jungle have created a time machine, the latest cog in Nintendo’s flux capacitor bringing players back to the age of Super Nintendo, taking advantage of an evolved 2D palette and a long absence that brings characters back with a vibrancy I fantasized about while playing the original titles so many years ago.

Perhaps the key is that the visual seduction inspires the same level of awe now as it did then, so that even if everything new is old again, it’s hard to complain about the result.

Mickey’s Epic Spending Options

Epic Mickey
Disney’s Epic Mickey is nearly upon us, set for release on November 30th, which is like what, ten more sleeps?

To fuel potential fanaticism, PDP offers two products that you’ve likely seen already, the paintbrush Nunchuk and a WiiMote charger that doubles as a display piece. The Nunchuck can already be had from Amazon or PDP’s website for $19.99 USD, but the charger, which PDP lists for $49.99 USD is a Toys ‘R’ Us Exclusive, a phrase I haven’t heard in quite awhile, and word is that it will later become available through PDP’s site as well.

Then of course there’s still the collector’s edition of the game, which all together should help leave an epic dent in your wallet depending on just how much you love the mouse.

I remember when you could see five Mickey cartoons for a dime and get change back! Okay not really, but it sounds like something that would be true, doesn’t it?
