Dead Space 2 Demo Coming

EA sent word that we’ll be able to get a taste of Isaac Clarke’s trip through The Sprawl before the release on January 25, 2011, with a demo of Dead Space 2 hitting Xbox Live worldwide and the PlayStation Network in North America on December 21, 2010 – European PS3 owners have to wait one more day for a December 22nd release.

Additional word is that said demo offers a walk through the Church of Unitology, so maybe remember to say your prayers before playing, anything with religion involved is apt to be frightening.

NeoGeo Station for PlayStation Network

SNK Playmore is all nostalgic about the 20th anniversary of the NeoGeo, and the PlayStation Network has been designated the celebration spot as of December 21, 2010, when NeoGeo Station starts extending the NeoGeo library to the PlayStation Network, with titles releasing for the PS3 at $8.99 and the PSP at $6.99.

Players can expect classic NeoGeo with a touch of the modern in the way of network play over PSN and Ad-Hoc compatibility for PSP.

Ten games will be available for PS3 when Station launches on December 21, with only Fatal Fury and Metal Slug available for PSP that day, though SNK Playmore plans to offer PSP versions of the entire launch list along with more releases during 2011.

The full list for the 21st includes Fatal Fury, Alpha Mission II, The King of Fighters ’94, Samurai Shodown, Baseball Stars Professional, Magician Lord, Metal Slug, League Bowling, Super Sidekicks, and Art of Fighting.

Your Recommended Dose of Import Nostalgia

PSN Imports
MonkeyPaw Games grants two flashback import wishes on PlayStation Network this week, with Money Idol Exchanger and Sonic Wings Special, both of which release tomorrow for $5.99 a piece – under the Import tab in the PSone Classic section.

This seemed significant for two reasons –

1 – Money Idol Exchanger’s economic puzzle challenge stands out in my mind most because someone gave me hell for not mentioning it when reviewing Critter Crunch last year.
2 – Sonic Wings deserves a mention entirely because one can never have too many military based 2D shooters – it’s a fact.

Review – Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I


I never owned a Sega console. I thought I’d come right out and say that, so there’s no confusion. I am not attached to Sonic; indeed, when I was growing up, Sonic was the enemy—the figurehead for those dark, unknown other children, playing their Genesis and carrying out Sega’s terrible bidding.

My encounters with Sonic—The Blue Satan—were largely exclusive to instances where I would commandeer my cousin’s Game Gear on thanksgiving. It had color; Tetris could not compete for my attention. Now I’m a little older and a little more polytheistic with regards to my console allegiances, but I still may not be the ideal test subject for the coherent nostalgia beam conjured by Sega’s latest Sonic release, the wholly digital Sonic 4.

Swords & Soldiers Marching To PSN

As you may have heard earlier today, Sony Online Entertainment gave word that Ronimo Games’ WiiWare RTS plans to invade the PlayStation Network later this Fall. As part of the move, the game’s unique brand of animated mayhem and civilization conquering strife is getting a bump in the visual department as well as the online features.

Always looking to learn more about HD-ness, I managed to catch up with Ronimo’s Fabian Akker to find out a bit more about the work involved –

“The cool thing is that we had little work on the HD graphics, most of the assets were made in HD and then scaled down for Wii, so it was mostly just exporting the original high res files for PSN.

The visuals in the HD PSN version are really sharp and crisp, it helps the characters a lot. For instance you can now clearly see the skull belt on the viking berserker which was just a yellow blob on the Wii, so especially for our artists it’s great to see all these cool details as they were meant to be seen.”

The Brave New World of PlayStation Plus

Announced during Sony’s presentation at E3 today was the incoming Playstation Plus subscription service. With the continued success of Xbox Live, plans from Activision to implement a subscription model within the Call of Duty franchise, and this latest announcement from Sony, the subscription model is quickly becoming ubiquitous within the game industry. Sony’s announcement was no surprise, having been the stuff of rumour for months, and a total inevitability, considering certain realities. If you imagine a great, serpentine creature twisting, wringing it’s hands and salivating uncontrollably, you probably have a fair understanding of how Sony has observed Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold service for the past several years, and know that this day always existed somewhere in the imminent future.
