Your PS3 Can Do This, Tomorrow

3D PS3
Sony’s made it official over at the PlayStation Blog – the HD stereoscopic 3D PS3 revolution begins for North America tomorrow. They also want you to know that the console has always been equipped and ready for this event, which makes me feel that there may be an overdose of who did 3D first chest banging in our future.

Anyone lucky enough to own a PS3 and a 3D television (where do you get your money and can I borrow some?) can check out the following games and demos tomorrow – WipEout HD (full game) – Super Stardust HD (full game) – MotorStorm Pacific Rift (demo) – PAIN (Downtown area and tutorial along with three modes, including two new modes created specifically with stereoscopic 3D in mind, Alien Toss and Ice Breaker).

I’ve heard that Wipeout HD doesn’t include the Fury Pack DLC in 3D. I’ve also heard that if you already own the full games in this list that you can upgrade them for free, which is good, because you’re probably going to be paying off your home electronics bill for quite awhile.

PixelJunk Rhythm

PixelJunk Rhythm
Coming late to the PS3 scene, I wasn’t able to participate in the excitement of some releases that would have otherwise been day one purchases for me, one in particular being PixelJunk Shooter. Luckily, the PlayStation Store included the whole PixelJunk series in its “Spring Fever” sale on the first weekend of May, when I coincidentally had a sudden breakout of unemployment calling for a mix of vacation and celebration, leading me to purchase the whole series.

From the first five minutes of playing Shooter, I found myself especially drawn in by the art style and music. I plowed through the game, bobbing my head up and down while a rhythm of satisfaction came from destroying cavern walls with missiles and a personal mission that my subterranean ship would never leave any survivors stranded in those underground areas.

I became an instant Q-Games Fan.

Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday
It’s official, Square-Enix is bringing the game I’ve been holding my breath over for an eternity to E3 2010. Finally we’ll know how the series plans to mutate and evolve on the PSP with The Third Birthday.

Did we need a post devoted entirely to this snippet of info?

The answer is an emphatic yes.

Trailer Park – Dragon Quest IX

Dragon Quest IX
In addition to adding Midnight Blue to the North American DSi XL color wheel, Nintendo may also be making gaming recommendations for the system via a new trailer for Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies – set to release on July 11, 2010.

Admittedly I haven’t been paying very much attention to the title – it’s clear that the multiplayer questing business merits more immediate investigation on my part.

As always, catch a glimpse after the break.

North America Gets Midnight Blue

Midnight Blue
Following on the revelation of three new color flavors for Japanese DSi LL owners, Nintendo of America has only announced one of them as destined for North American shores. What’s probably most interesting about the announcement is that the suggested retail price remains $189.99 for the system, which releases on July 11, 2010 – you may recall that the system is getting a price cut in Japan.

Guess we’ll have to wait it out for more distant 3DS motivated discounts.

Review – Flametail

Flametail
The mini-games of No More Heroes 2 have already taught me that managing waste disposal in space is an ordeal of cosmic proportions. And while the DSiWare release of Flametail finds plenty of ways to back up that notion, it also finds space between the planets to create a puzzle game that mixes simple and patient controls with devious designs, lightly crossing two genres to offer up a title worthy of some overdue DSi reviews.

Your Monday Dose of Zen – ilomilo

ilomilo
Hidden behind all the growing noise of news and reveals that promises to crush every last one of us under the weight of the hype falling this week and next, Southend Interactive released a hefty dose of Zen for your Monday with a “summer” trailer for their exclusive XBLA title, ilomilo.

I promise you that watching Ilo and Milo navigate and manipulate the obstacles of their 3D space is the best one minute and thirty-two second gift you can give yourself today – I may even be watching it repeatedly between last minute E3 bookings to take the edge off.

Catch it after the break.
