North America Gets Midnight Blue

Midnight Blue
Following on the revelation of three new color flavors for Japanese DSi LL owners, Nintendo of America has only announced one of them as destined for North American shores. What’s probably most interesting about the announcement is that the suggested retail price remains $189.99 for the system, which releases on July 11, 2010 – you may recall that the system is getting a price cut in Japan.

Guess we’ll have to wait it out for more distant 3DS motivated discounts.

  1. I liked the yellow one. I think I’d wait for the 3DS however… seeing it should be backwards compatible. Hopefully more comfortable to hold/play as well. It seems that the portable consoles never got the memo that the console controllers did… on ergonomics. While I can agree it is difficult to make a handheld both ergonomic and pocketable… but really… who caries one of these in their pockets anyways?

  2. I see the 3DS releasing over here until February 2011 at the earliest. It will definitely release in Japan before the end of the fiscal year but over here I see Nintendo still being able to sell 2 million DS/DSi/Xl units on December alone so what’s the rush?

This color is great. I’m more partial to the Burgundy one in case anyone wants to gift it to me, but Blue would work as well.

  3. Yeah, I’m in no rush for any new hardware… Heck it would be fine by me if the 3DS didn’t come out until 2012 or later. I’m actually glad that consoles this generation (supposedly…) aren’t in any rush to become obsolete.

  4. me. all the time. when my DS is active it’s in my pocket everywhere I go.

I like this blue better than the cobalt. but just a tad more.

Though quite frankly I’m with Ujn. The DS is more or less perfect for me in terms of hardware. The stuff I would actually want fixed isn’t going to happen. So we’re not gonna be able to save demos, MP3 isn’t gonna happen, stuff like that. Overall however my satisfaction is extremely high. The hardware is well built, inexpensive, small, have a large game selection, a good game selection, great battery life. The DS really is a dream as far as I’m concerned. definitely top 5 maybe in the #3 spot behind SNES, and Cube and just above GBA.

Two nights ago I was talking with some N-fans who i think were graphic design students and the subject of 3DS game up and a guy said he wanted it to have android. that was his pipe dream a DS with android OS. :shake: the more complicated you make a portable system the less portable it is. You throw android on there and you might as well be using a smart phone in the first place. The DS has enough problems with a stylus as it is. For instance I don’t want to say no to better graphics but if we keep going up and up eventually we just have a small console and that’s not ideal for portable gaming.
