E3 Video Bits – Conduit 2

Conduit 2
In addition to what Sega was showing at their booth, Aileen had a chance to attend a few closed door sessions, including High Voltage Software’s Conduit 2.

The sequel to the Wii shooter didn’t receive the same highlighting the first game did at Nintendo’s Press Conference last year, but HVS has plenty to say about how they approached this newest entry in the series based on the reception to the original, and how several new additions to the game make them confident that the title can satisfy gamers looking for a solid FPS on the Wii.

High Voltage was even accommodating enough to let Aileen record the session, so you can catch an early work-in-progress demo for the single-player portion of the title with Producer Joshua Olson, after the break.

Review – Mass Effect 2 “Overlord” DLC

Latest in the ongoing series of DLC releases for Mass Effect 2 is the Overlord add-on, which has Commander Shepard battling a rogue Virtual Intelligence. Bioware has again approached their downloadable content with an eye to quality, including an excellent new soundtrack and some great visuals—but this package seems to have also been designed to test new designs for planet exploration following the demise of the Mako and the revision of galaxy exploration in Mass Effect 2.

Each DLC pack has offered a gameplay experience unique from the retail release, if often a brief one—the Stolen Memory DLC presented a sharply designed adventure mission, with Sherpard infiltrating the home of a prominent crime boss, and the Firewalker pack introduced Hammerhead vehicle sequences. Overlord provides a much less combat-intense experience, focusing on the reintroduction of vehicle exploration and the delivery of the dark science-fiction elements that have helped make the Mass Effect universe distinct.

E3 2010 – Even More Pictures from the Showfloor

Itagaki
Aileen managed to run into a Rockstar yesterday! Apparently the camera settings explain the blur behind them, but some of us here prefer to think that when you meet a legend, time stops [ed]

Under the Radar – FlingSmash

FlingSmash
I feel bad for not having already listed FlingSmash along with all the other side-scrolling joy Nintendo managed to haul out to the show this week. Plus the game has one of those great pitches, specifically that this is what you get when combining tennis and pinball.

On the list of small design tidbits you don’t hear very often, FlingSmash also sympathizes with left-handed players and the game can position play from the left side of the screen – which would mess me up, but I’m certain some southpaw reading this will appreciate the thought.

Keep in mind you’ll need to get yourself some Wii MotionPlus if you haven’t already, which after this week is getting a lot harder to avoid.

Catch some video and art after the break.

Konami’s E3 Horror Show

Konami's E3 Horror Show
Konami went to a great amount of trouble to demonstrate the concept of Zan Datsu earlier today, slicing through the second full day of E3 2010 to take time away from busy people – the jury quickly concluding said time could have been better invested elsewhere.

During an awkward stretch of time where industry professionals seemed to be watching the clock while talking, Konami did cough up a trailer for the next installment of the Silent Hill series, under the uninspiring working title of Silent Hill 8.

Silent Hill is a franchise near and dear to me, from the timeless accomplishment of Silent Hill 2’s psychological twister, straight through to Silent Hill Shattered Memories – a game I still insist is worth the investment. And yet my bias toward the series can’t survive a very simple trailer, full of atmospheric smog and flashlight frights that can be had from numerous other titles already available. It isn’t over yet, but I was expecting something more than simply tossing another stray soul into the Silent Hill snake pit while obligatory horrors ensue.

It’s a post Alan Wake world, not because that title was everything expected, but because it reminded us of just how well conceived and edited a suspenseful horror title could be.

Hell it’s even a post Shattered Memories world.

It was the trailer for Rebellion’s NeverDead that grabbed for more of my attention, not because there’s very much footage to go on, but rather that it was cut in that way that really doesn’t tell me anything, so I simply have to know more. Additionally I could use another third-person action title with a sense of humor.

Catch video for both games after the break.

Under the Radar – Clash of Heroes

Clash of Heroes
If the PlayStation Network release of Critter Crunch taught us anything last year – and it did – it was that when Capybara goes 2D in HD, the results are simply gorgeous.

I have zero concern that the HD remake of one of my favorite DS games from last year won’t validate that belief, especially since there’s screens to prove it – and some shiny art to boot. The game itself is pretty damn good too.

Mind you I still wish they could drop the Might & Magic part of the title, but aside from that there’s no reason not to have this XBLA/PSN title on your radar.

E3 Audio Bits – All Things Ys

All Things Ys
[podcast]http://www.gamesugar.net/podcast/e32010/e3ysaudio.mp3[/podcast]

Since Aileen was already checking Ivy the Kiwi?, it made sense to stick around and find out more about the games spewing from XSEED’s new arrangement to stock the PSP with Falcom titles.

I’m going to say that the games are probably in the best hands possible, because it didn’t take her long to find a very enthusiastic Falcom fan among the XSEED ranks.

Give a listen to hear about skill items, deadly yellow gauges, gathering materials, and many more bits from both Ys Seven and Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

You can also catch the latest trailer for Ys Seven after the break.
