Your Tactics Ogre Pre-Order Incentive

Tactics Ogre
Square-Enix gives a glimpse of those Tarot Cards featuring illustrations from Akihiko Yoshida for the PSP release of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, adding word that they will be available outside of Japan, at least to those who pre-order the upcoming title from GameStop, EB Games Canada, Amazon.com or Amazon.ca – which thankfully is a pretty wide set of options to suit consumer preference.

The game’s North American release is set for February 15, 2011.

Tactics Ogre
Square-Enix went and made it all official.

Yes, it’s clear that it was much more than a hunch.

That this group would revisit a classic franchise.

That’s the way they all become the Tactics Ogre Bunch!

Your Recommended Dose of Aya Brea

The Third Birthday
Famitsu has put a healthy dose of images and screenshots for The Third Birthday online, which you can catch here, and here. It sounds like overdrive – Aya’s ability to inhabit and control other people – is pulling at a more strategic experience than the straightforward body hopping I might expect from any other game. Inhabiting soldiers in order to reposition them, and still being able to attack via them rather than watching events unfold sounds ideal, but at this point what I don’t know about the game could still fill a warehouse.

On the list of things I do know – I need the above image in poster form immediately.

E3 Impressions – A Tale of Two Downloadable Titles

Downloadable Titles
Two of the top downloadable games I saw at E3 2010 are definitely Konami’s Hard Corps: Uprising and Square-Enix’s Space Invaders Infinity Gene. Child of Eden was stealing plenty of the limelight and my attention, but these games deserve some recognition.

Konami is releasing Hard Corps: Uprising on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network this fall, and judging by the E3 demo, it’s coming along really well. The art shift makes it easy to call it a refreshing take on a celebrated franchise, whose concept and gameplay controls are still adopted from early Contra games – of course new features such as online co-op mode and leaderboards tag along for the nostalgia trip.

I couldn’t help but notice “working title” on the E3 sign with Hard Corps. Does that mean that they’re considering putting “Contra” back in the title? I’m going to guess probably not.

Trailer Park – Mindjack

Mindjack
Anyone who gave Cavia’s 2004 PlayStation 2 title, Ghost in the Shell – Stand Alone Complex a chance will undoubedly recall the game’s most unique feature, namely the occassional ability to hack opponents in order to turn enemies against one another for short bouts of time.

Square-Enix has released an E3 trailer for another title with developer Feelplus, who possibly thought that was as good an idea for a fuller game as I did at the time. How it comes together remains to be seen of course, but I’d appreciate a game that offers me a chance to jump out of stereotypical and obligatory lead characters to take others for a spin.

Either way, somebody needs to start giving Squeenix a hand naming games. Anybody else immediately remember that awesomely awful Emilio Estevez / Mick Jagger movie Freejack?

Catch the trailer after the break.

The Invasion is Coming…, Again

Space Invaders
In other following up on Famitsu news, it appears that Square-Enix’s E3 2010 strategy is to deliver at least 90% of what I’ve always wanted. I can’t absolutely prove that, I haven’t seen Einhander show up yet, but there is a trailer for Space Invaders Infinity Gene, which is hitting the show next week before its release for XBLA and PSN later this year.

Far from another pointless Extreme edition, Infinity Gene is a title I’ve been wanting on the consoles along with plenty of other people.

As always, catch the trailer after the break and decide if you want to be excessively happy about the news too.
