Happy Horrible Holidays of Doom
Xmas Eve is upon us once again, that special time of year when we gather in great numbers to withstand the many festive horrors about to descend upon us as Santa’s jolly boots of doom sound on the rooftops and signal the beginning of untold holiday terrors.

Whether you end up holding out against Santa’s mechanized death squads, or repelling Zombies compelled to feed on flesh by that fiendish spirit of the season, be sure to take a moment to reflect and let friends and loved ones know how much they mean to you.

After all, you may not get another chance if the defenses don’t hold.

Merry Xmas from everyone at Gamesugar!

Trailer Park – Sturmwind

Sturmwind
Germany’s Redspotgames and Duranik kickoff the holidays like it’s 1999 with a trailer for their in-development Dreamcast shooter Sturmwind – which was earnestly on my wish list, so how about that.

Set to release next year, the game definitely has a Gradius vibe pulsing along with several other crazy influences. Add to that destructible environments as well as vertical and horizontal scrolling sections, and it all means that you’d better keep your GDROM drives in good working order a little bit longer.

Check it out below.

Harmonix and Viacom Split, The Wheel in the Sky Keeps On Turning

Harmonix
MTV’s owner Viacom has followed through cutting the cord on Harmonix, setting the company free to flesh out new productions under the eye of new investors. Along with the crazy-popular RockBand series, Harmonix has developed other music titles such as the Karaoke Revolution series and the recently released Dance Central for Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral.

Harmonix’s Manager of Communications, John Drake has said in a forum post on the RockBand site that “the DLC schedule marches on for Rock Band, we will continue our support of previously released titles and we’re hard at work on some unannounced projects that we think you’re going to be pumped about.”

Harmonix sounds like they have everything under control, so I’m happy for that. Their unannounced projects have my interest piqued – last E3 brought word of a game for the 3DS, and who knows what other music-games they may have up their sleeves for the future.

Have any guesses or wishes for Harmonix’s next big title?

Konami Europe has offered up details on new downloadable content for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which involves two installments titled Reverie and Resurrection.

Reverie sends Gabriel back to the castle to destroy evil, while Resurrection picks up from the retail release’s insane ending, which is said to feature a showdown with a notorious enemy as Gabriel meets his destiny.

Both DLC installments are expected to release early next year, the first in February and the second following in April – leaving us waiting only for pricing details, and Konami to issue the announcement for North America.

In lew of those details, I offer you art.

Your Wednesday Dose of Zen

Arcana Heart 3
Arc System Works is bringing another dose of elaborately costumed female fighting to home consoles in Japan with Arcana Heart 3 hitting the 360 and PS3 there on January 13th.

I rather enjoyed the one dose available on the PlayStation 2 here, and at no extra charge gained an anecdote involving an gamestore employee convinced that surely Kingdom Hearts was what we meant to say, but no in fact, Hearts differ from Highlanders in that there can be more than one.
