Your Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Shocker

Okami
Of all the things that could have happened over night, I certainly wouldn’t have guessed Capcom was gonna get Okami all up in their Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Of course, wolves don’t typically attack unless provoked, most often via dwindling food sources or someone getting too close to their young, so unless you get between Amaterasu and a ham sandwich or a copy of Okamiden, the confrontation may prove anti-climatic.

Judge for yourself after the break.

Your Recommended Dose of Hard Corps: Uprising

Hard Corps: Uprising
Not to be left out of the Comic Con fun, Konami has released assets for several games, only one of which is Hard Corps: Uprising, mighty focus of my attention.

Think lush, think vivid, think of how awesome it is when it rains in 2D. I know it’s premature, but I love you Arc System Works.

Catch a fresh batch of screens after the break.

Q&A – Krome Studios Talks Blade Kitten

Blade Kitten
Krome Studios’ upcoming side-scroller about a pink haired cat-girl weilding a rather large sword hasn’t had to work too hard to stay on my radar this year. Based on an original IP that was first developed as a comic, and name dropping 2D inspirations like Strider are easy paths to the center of my heart, but also only part of the picture on what we should expect.

In June Atari stepped up as publisher, stretching the title’s reach to include PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC download for this Fall, so it seemed like a good time to hit the team up with some of the questions I’ve gathered since first hearing about the game, which Krome Studios’ Co-Founder and Creative Director Steve Stamatiadis was good enough to take the time to answer.

Demon’s Souls Gets Life Extension

Demon's Souls
One of the more interesting emails I received today was a press release announcing Atlus’ continuing support for Demon’s Souls with news that they would extend North American online support through to at least March 2011. A big part of the reason I find this interesting is because I had no idea there was any concern about the game losing that support anytime soon – such thoughts simply never occurred to me.

So it’s good news for veterans and newcomers alike that Atlus will be keeping the lights on, with the world tendency system even shifting to pure white for a couple of weeks in celebration. That’s great news and all, at least until March.

However, considering that the game won’t even be a year old in North America until October 6, I’m not sure I like the state of affairs when we hand out cookies for things we used to take for granted. I’m not trying to be a downer here, I know everything is disposable and the next big game is the priority, the new economy and all that jazz – I’m just saying it feels odd.

Anyway, you tell me, how long should a game based around creating online communities on a major console be supported?

Hey Kids, It’s Trish!

Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Capcom sent an email to remind me that if I were at Comic Con this week I could be playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3, le sigh. However if you happen to be there you can catch the latest build at their booth (#4844).

If like myself you are not there, you can try to make do with some screens of Trish kicking ass in what I’ll have to assume is an Umbrella Facility, unless Doctor Doom is researching the G Virus now.

I <3 Hibaru Yaju

Hibaru Yaju
I’ve been a little put out hearing some pick on Hibaru Yaju’s role in Star Successor, mostly because despite providing plenty of frustrations the sequence has become one of my favorites within the game. If sword fighting inside a reactor core with an anime samurai dream girl who offers you a date is wrong, well I don’t want to be right ever again.

Granted the sequence is strangely placed and timed and one-of-a-kind in the delivery, but isn’t that what makes Treasure so much fun to love?

It really is plenty parts Treasure eccentricity, almost like a pause in the action proper that changes the pacing entirely – I felt more than a bit like the student learning to slow down, relax, and wait for the chance to grab the stone from her hand, or in this case evade at just the right moment and strike. Defeating her tosses you straight into another boss encounter in a game that seems to possess such an incredibly strange and unique rhythm that I might never quite find the right words for what Treasure has done this time around.

If you haven’t played Star Successor yet, shame on you, but I guess you can still check out the fight after the break.

Your Translated Dose of Metroid Developer Talk

Metroid Other M
It’s a glorious Saturday when you discover that someone was good enough to tackle translating and subtitling Nintendo’s Japanese developer feature for Metroid: Other M – so be sure to drop by and thank them.

To be honest, the language barrier didn’t stop me from already watching the two videos several times over with limited comprehension – Metroid footage is universal, kinda like the language of love as far as I’m concerned.

That said, being able to follow along and hear about some of the challenges in developing the latest release in the franchise is not to be missed – so catch it after the break.
