Radiant Historia Rage

Radiant Historia
Some of the screenshots Atlus sent out for their upcoming DS RPG seem a bit aggressive in the dialogue department today – I suppose time traveling to fix events will cause even the best of us to lose our cool though.

Whether Radiant Historia will delight or upset players remains to be seen, with the release date still set for February 22nd, but the publisher has released a walkthrough video for the game that you can try to gleam some answers from after the break.

El Shaddai Coming, Eventually

El Shaddai Ascension of the Metatron
UTV Ignition set the Japanese release date for their alternative spin on biblical mythology, with El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron set to release there April 28th – followed up by word that a European and North American date would be announced “shortly.”

El Shaddai is of course the strange game with the stranger name, often cited as the title being worked on by people who were also involved with Capcom titles Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Okami.

Closer to home the company has announced the immediate consolidation of its US operations after an interesting ride over the last year and a half, into one location at UTV True Games in Austin, Texas – where work continues on the FPS Reich, and I hear the stars at night are big and bright.

Gemini Rue

Gemini Rue
Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Blade Runner, Snatcher, and plenty more combination’s of slipstream jazz came to mind while watching a trailer for Gemini Rue earlier today.

This decidedly old-school adventure game has players assuming the role of two characters – specifically an ex-assassin and an amnesiac brought together within a bleak world controlled by the Boryokudan crime syndicate. Slipping into the sci-fi noir realm grabs my attention most any day, and the visual throwback here definitely helps keep it.

Previously known as Boryokudan Rue, the winner of last year’s Independent Game Festival Student Showcase is getting a PC release on February 24th via Wadjet Eye Games, and today became available for pre-order with both a download and disc version.

The digital copy is running $14.99, while the limited edition CD version runs $24.99 and includes an MP3 soundtrack.

Anyway, catch the trailer and see if it sweeps your fancy today as well – and if you like what you see remember to pay Wadjet Eye Games a visit to find out more.

Review – Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

Review Ghost Trick Phantom Detective
Death is only the beginning in Capcom’s latest DS release, which begins with the demise of its protagonist, Sissel, only to start a spiritual adventure that finds him making plenty of new friends and influencing people – despite the handicap of being deceased. The first of Sissel’s new acquaintances is a possessed lamp, which kindly introduces him to a ghost world overlapping the land of the living and allows Sissel a means of moving the story forward by unraveling the multiple threads that comprise it.

Capable of switching between these two spheres, Sissel is able to possess and manipulate inanimate objects, a skill key toward solving the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death – though this ability results in him helping plenty of others along the way, like a phantom littlest hobo.

Ilo, Milo and Me

ilomilo
I’ll be the first to admit my weakness for cute things.

If someone were to pick up a stuffed animal, have it ‘look’ at me and in a strange yet fitting voice for a small stuffed inanimate object say, “Hello, Chris!” I’d probably take it home then and there. I’m not ashamed, it’s who I am baby, which is why Ilomilo, from Swedish developer Southend Interactive has quickly found a special place in my heart.

Two friends meet daily for tea and maple cookies. Unfortunately, the path they take to each other is never constant, changing with the weather. Manipulating a cube-like world, we can control either Ilo or Milo on their quest to meet, chat and eat cookies and drink tea. It sounds simple, and in many ways is, but it’s also pure and irresistible sugar.

Review – Z.H.P.: Unlosing Ranger Vs. Darkdeath Evilman

Review ZHP Unlosing Ranger vs DarkDeath Evilman
Would it shock you to learn that Z.H.P.: Unlosing Ranger Vs. Darkdeath Evilman was one of the best games I played in 2010? It certainly was the game with the longest, most esoteric title that anyone played in 2010. Beyond the hokey moniker however, there hides a roguelike tactical RPG that is wholly fresh, inventive, and surprisingly accessible.

Z.H.P. is a strange game, to say the least – though I use the term ‘strange’ as both a term of endearment and for descriptive purposes – the pre-title sequence warns you right off the top that the game only contains one battle, but that it’s awesomely epic. This had my interest piqued well before the title sequence and opening story portions fully introduced me to the breadth of Z.H.P.’s overt strangeness.

The opening story is told through Television news updates and eye witness accounts, global attention fixed on the scene of an epic battle that is about to take place between the supreme hero and his arch-villain nemesis. Running late to the epic showdown is our hero however, the Unlosing Ranger, and unfortunately for the well being of all mankind he is unceremoniously hit by a car and killed along the way. With his last breathe he bequeaths the Unlosing Ranger mantle to you, the accident’s sole witness.

Taking up the challenge thrust upon you, you set out for your date with destiny – the final showdown against Darkdeath Evilman, wherein you are instantly killed and sent to a realm known as Bizzarro Earth.

The Sony Factor

PlayStation 3 Games 2011
Sony’s done something I wouldn’t normally find interesting, taking time out to mention that there are plenty of games releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 3 this year, and taking space on the PlayStation Blog to point out what they are.

While titles like inFamous 2, Killzone 3 and The Last Guardian are a given, it’s really nice to see shout-outs for releases from NIS America, such as the next Ar tonelico title – and PixelJunk Shooter 2 is hanging in there, so maybe we’ll finally get to play that sometime soon.

If you’re wondering what to do with your PS3 this year you can hit the list up here.
