North America Gets Midnight Blue

Midnight Blue
Following on the revelation of three new color flavors for Japanese DSi LL owners, Nintendo of America has only announced one of them as destined for North American shores. What’s probably most interesting about the announcement is that the suggested retail price remains $189.99 for the system, which releases on July 11, 2010 – you may recall that the system is getting a price cut in Japan.

Guess we’ll have to wait it out for more distant 3DS motivated discounts.

Your Monday Dose of Zen – ilomilo

ilomilo
Hidden behind all the growing noise of news and reveals that promises to crush every last one of us under the weight of the hype falling this week and next, Southend Interactive released a hefty dose of Zen for your Monday with a “summer” trailer for their exclusive XBLA title, ilomilo.

I promise you that watching Ilo and Milo navigate and manipulate the obstacles of their 3D space is the best one minute and thirty-two second gift you can give yourself today – I may even be watching it repeatedly between last minute E3 bookings to take the edge off.

Catch it after the break.

Trailer Park – Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Enslaved
Let’s kick off the E3 2010 trailer bombardment right, with another look at a title I’m increasingly interested in, Ninja Theory’s Enslaved. It’s definitely the one title I’m most turned around on this year – now I just need to get my paws on it.

The haunting beauty of future wastelands, robotic monstrosities, and a bit of water surfing await you, after the break.

Your Monday Brain Teaser

Super Scribblenauts
I’ve just received an early morning email challenging my ratio of coffee to awakeness. Awakeness might not actually be a word, but like I said, it’s early.

Anyway, this morning’s brain teaser asks what you get when you conjure up a fierce windsurfing werewolf, a purple flying fish, a yellow plaid bus and a small zombie riding a polka-dotted hot air balloon.

My first guess was the type of nightmares I have after eating a big sandwich before bed, but the correct answer is in fact Super Scribblenauts – the DS followup promising to bring the magic of adjectives, which allow players to change the color, size, style and behaviors of the objects summoned via the power of the word.

Said image is mildly amusing, but as with the last release I’m looking forward to seeing what scenarios all of you come up with. I’m also incredibly happy to see the word “Super” return to game titles.

Resident Evil – The Maniac Mansion Incident

Resident Evil - The Maniac Mansion Incident
From the moment a pack of zombie dogs chase a pixelated S.T.A.R.S. team into Umbrella’s infamous mansion, it’s clear that the merger of two of my favorite game franchises is not only long overdue, but is in fact the greatest thing ever.

MajorNeese’s Youtube channel has been posting the four part series over the past few months, which I have somehow been completely ignorant of. “How have I not seen this?!” is all I have to offer at the moment, and judging from the view count of the videos I’d say I’m not alone, but this will not stand.

You can catch the four part series after the break, and/or pay the videos a visit at Youtube. Whichever you prefer just make sure you don’t miss the greatest mash-up of forever – the chocolate and peanut butter reign is over.

NOE Recommends More Wii in Your Diet

Play Wii
Not Surprisingly, Nintendo of Europe thinks you should play more Wii, and is trying out the new slogan on their website “Play Wii and warm your gamer’s heart!”

It was kind of hard not to laugh since that sounds like the silly type of thing I might say on the right day. To back up the heartwarming argument, they’ve put together a promotional video of first and third party releases – admittedly I have a weakness for videos that slap together lots of great game footage.

I think it’s safe to say that Nintendo’s console is warming more hearts than it’s icing over these days, and this type of video is definitely aimed at the gamers Nintendo was accused of ignoring not more than a year ago.

Catch the video after the break and let me know what you think.

Masaya Matsuura’s WINtA

WINtA
Non-profit publisher OneBigGame has announced a new project in their initiative to work with leading game designers in raising funds for charity, revealing that rhythm master and NanaOn-Sha President Masaya Matsuura will be donating his time, along with Triangle Studios, to create a new music rhythm game for the iPhone / iPod touch, titled WINtA.

As for what to expect from WINtA, the early word is that the title will combine pattern recognition and the tendency to tap along with the rhythm, while also going beyond the “highway of colored symbols” we’ve been living on since the rhythm genre began.

Matsuura’s own words offered a bit more insight,

“…further down the line WINtA will also very much involve music artists, VJs and gamers around the world in this project. I can’t wait to see the creative vision that we have for WINtA finally become a reality later this year.”

So to make a long story short, I have no idea what to expect at the moment. Anything is possible when NanaOn-Sha is involved, so stay tuned.
