New Shades of Pokémon, in 2011

Pokemon
I’m just catching up with Nintendo’s buzz about confirmation that Pokémon Black Version & Pokémon White Version are heading to North American DS owners, along with a bit of art for new legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom.

When the games were originally announced for Japan there were plenty of people expressing surprise that the new titles would be hitting the DS rather than the platform we’re only a little over two weeks away from seeing – though that probably had more to do with disappointment rather than surprise.

Based on the title of this post you can probably conclude that I’m more surprised that the date for their arrival is a year from now, in Spring 2011, but I suppose we don’t have to worry about overdosing that way. All I know is that this is still a far cry from the Pokémon MMO I want.

While I ponder that, you can catch Reshiram and Zekrom after the break, along with a trailer for PokéPark Wii: Pikachu‘s Adventure – the minigame filled Wii title recieved a European release date of July 9, 2010 yesterday.

Our Mango-Cherry Flavored Heroes Paradise Contest Winners

Heroes Paradise Contest Winners
Gamesugar’s Heroes Paradise Contest came to a close last night, and I want to take time out right away to thank everyone who entered. We got a great response, which makes it easier to keep offering up more contests in the future. I also want to thank Marvelous again for giving us the opportunity to show that there’s plenty of love for No More Heroes and delicious gaming swag.

It was a pretty crazy morning here, we might have had a Mexican wrestler draw our five winners, or may have just put on masks while doing so ourselves.

Either way, here are our five winners, who will be hearing from us later this afternoon.

The congratulations go to – Mrmountie, Akari, Poofyslime, Nord and Joshhest.

Japanese Club Nintendo Gets…

Club Nintendo
If only I had a nickel for every time I wrote something along those lines…

Anyway, this time around Japanese Club Nintendo members can reward themselves starting tomorrow with the two disc, 70 song stuffed soundtrack for Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I was expecting the point spread on such an item to be pretty high, but it seems the soundtrack can be had for 500 points, or 300 for those who register the code from their new copy of Galaxy 2.

Tokyo Dreaming

Tokyo Game Show
Sure E3 is coming up fast, but I’m really dreaming of a Gamesugar trip to Tokyo this Fall for TGS – which we all know isn’t really dead, it was just having a small nap.

As proof of this, CESA debuted this sweet visual for the show, which runs from September 16-19 this year.

That gives me nearly four months to raise enough money to get there, so if I show up selling cookies at your door you’ll know what’s up.

Review – Alan Wake

Alan Wake
Previously on Gamesugar –

We received a package in the mail, a review copy of Alan Wake. The envelope it came in deceptively hid the real weight of the contents, carrying the immense expectations caused by bold announcements made early in the development process, and aspirations focusing too much attention on the ability of a single game to define a hardware cycle.

From my own detached position I expected something Silent Hill sans the sickly sexualized horror that has kept the genre neatly niche. Perhaps I expected the kind of game Sierra might have made, following in a more accessible Gabriel Knight / Phantasmagoria vein.

It wasn’t going to be that simple however, the game somehow resisting the temptation to hover around the sun on the wax wings of hype, instead creating an experience that defends the existence of authoritative narrative in an era of open world desires, bringing along play mechanics that directly feed out of and back into the written words that pull players deeper down the rabbit hole.

Treasure Talks Sin & Punishment 2

Sin & Punishment 2
North America might be getting Super Mario Galaxy 2 today, but my wait for Sin & Punishment 2 continues for one more month – sadly no European readers have invited me over for a grind session to date. Where’s the love guys?

We get the game on June 27, which convienantly falls the day after my birthday – so while I’m impatient I’m also touched Nintendo worked that out for me. What we can borrow from Europe in the meantime is a developer interview with Treasure, which offers up some more concept art via quick edits and some words from my hero, artist Yasushi Suzuki.

Treasure President Masato Maegawa also puts in an apperance, and we get the shocking story about Nintendo feeling that the first test version of the game was too easy.

Catch it after the break.

PSA – Heroes Paradise Contest Reminder

No More Heroes
I’m pretty confident that we are running the coolest No More Heroes erotica contest on the Interwebz – you should really think about entering if you haven’t already – right here right now for instance.

But would you believe that an English lingerie company is raising the erotica bar with a line of “bedtime is funtime” clothing based on No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle – specifically the favorite apparel of Sylvia, Shinobu and Naomi.

I feel so outdone and in need of a cold shower. You probably didn’t need to know that last part.

Thanks to everyone who’s entered our contest so far by the way!
