Okamiden’s Japanese Date

Okamiden
Capcom’s updated the Japanese Okamiden site, which you can visit here, adding new details about bonus items, new wallpaper, and most importantly a release date of September 30, 2010 for the spiritual continuation of the series.

It’s definitely worth a visit – you can update your Okamiden art collection and watch some trailers before returning to wondering what portion of 2011 Capcom intends to leave the rest of us waiting for.

Trailer Park – Ni no Kuni

Ni no Kuni
Though I’ve been waving a fan flag since the first day I’d heard of a joint project between Level-5 and Studio Ghibli on the DS, it was hard not to pick at the way early screens for the game showed a sizable distance between the artwork for the title and the actual in-game results.

Recent word that Level-5 would also be bringing the game to the PlayStation 3 was poised to shut my mouth, and catching the trailer from the official site for the game has done the job and more.

The wait for this game has been at times agonizing, but it really does appear that good things come to the patient gamer. Word from overseas is that the PS3 and DS versions aren’t twins at all, but are unique games sporting key differences, with the DS release coming sooner – so there’s also still plenty to wonder about on the Ni no Kuni front.

In the meantime, you can catch the must-see PS3 trailer for yourself after the break.

Peace Walker – The View from Mother Base

Metal Gear Solid - Peace Walker
Even while being bombarded by E3, I was chewing through Peace Walker reasonably quick until hitting the first of the game’s singing robotic superweapons. The massive tank with the unfortunately odd name of Pupa was waiting to attack in the first confrontation within the game that didn’t provide any safe havens for planning strategy or recovery.

Two previous encounters with heavier infantry offered buildings or overturned wreckage for refuge, but this encounter occurs within a large open arena, a bit like a match of Twisted Metal – except that Boss doesn’t have access to a machinegun equipped ice cream truck.

Sonic’s 19th Anniversary

Sonic the Hedgehog
In the pursuit of finding more reasons to eat cake around here, it seems worth mentioning that Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday is here, the original game releasing June 23, 1991. Incidentally I believe the Japanese release was June 26, which is worth mentioning even more because it means overseas Sonic has the same birthday as yours truly.

In honor of the occasion, and probably because there’s plenty of Sonic coming our way this year, Sega has a contest on the go for fans, which gives two very lucky winners a chance to head to Tokyo to visit Sega Japan and the Sonic development team.

For the next two weeks Sega is putting the call out for fan videos filled with Sonic love – though you should probably pay the official site a visit so you don’t misinterpret how I phrased that and film something regrettable.

How Would You Change Nintendo’s 3DS?

3DS
As polished as the 3DS presented itself at E3 last week, it’s been floating around lately that Nintendo has gone on the record saying that the 3DS’ design is not 100% final – so the question begs to be asked, what would you, the gamer who ultimately buys the thing, change?

When the original DS was announced under the codename “Nitro” it had a very different look from the final launch design, some say for the better, some for the worst. Nintendo is very good about getting feedback on their consoles and either changing them before launch, or soon after releasing revisions that cater to fan needs and wants.

Sin & Punishment 2 Has TV Spots…?!

Sin & Punishment 2
Way back in the dark days when I wondered when Sin & Punishment 2 would release and how much of a push Nintendo would give it, there were a few people who said –

“What do you expect them to do for a niche title? Give it a television ad?”

That was fair game back then too, because there was zero chance of something like that happening. And yet, if you continue on after the break, you can catch the television spot reminding you that the game releases this Sunday.

Incredibly strange amazing days – if I actually see this on tv during the week my head might explode. Has there ever been an ad for a Treasure game on television before?

Also, touche Nintendo, touche – though you should have asked me for a quote for the spot too.

Step Aside Wii Speak?

Headbanger Headset for Wii
Since it’s mentioned with enthusiasm in our video for Conduit 2, I thought I should post an image of PDP’s Headset – which at the moment is being talked of as a great peripheral for High Voltage’s fps sequel, but I’m more immediately thinking of Monster Hunter Tri when I look at.

The headset is due out in October for $24.99. I would have posted this last week when it was more topical, but because the headset tethers gamers to the Wii via the USB cord I wanted to find out how long said cord was, which I’m now told is over 10 feet.

More specs after the break.
