PlayStation Network Sales – Sega Heavy Edition

PlayStation Network Sale
Sony sent a reminder that many, many games are currently on sale via PSN, including the must own Afterburner Climax, which shifted to $4.99.

Assuming you aren’t concerned about clutching a UMD in your hands, it’s also definitely worth a mention that Valkyria Chronicles 2 is on sale for $15.99, the same price you can currently snag Phantasy Star Portable 2 for.

There’s a pretty thick list of other bargains of varying interest, so check it out.

Trailer Park – Hyperdimension Neptunia

Hyperdimension Neptunia
There are few things I enjoy more than girly JRPGs filled to the brim with bubbly techno music and anime inspired character designs. Sakura Wars: So Long My Love most recently filled that cotton candy-shaped hole in my heart, but now Hyperdimension Neptunia is finally on the way and we have NIS America, the patron saint of Japanese quirk to thank for bringing it to the West.

If this newly released trailer is any indication, Neptunia should satisfy all of my aforementioned prerequisites for a delightful time sink. On top of that, there’s a battle system that utilizes game consoles personified as goddesses, the ability to summon pictures and even game characters from your PS3’s HDD, and in-game use of your own images all on an epic journey through a world called Gamindustri (“Game Industry”, in case the subtlety isn’t smashing you in the face hard enough).

The game is slated for release in February 2011.

Mario Sports Mix Dated

Mario Sports Mix
Nintendo’s apparently all about announcing games tied in with Square-Enix this week, the latest update being that the Square-Enix developed Sports Mix will see Mario and company bringing hockey, basketball, volleyball and dodgeball to a single Wii disc on February 7, 2011.

The game offers 4-player trash talk opportunities both locally and online, and that’s pretty much the gist of the announcement for today.

Though if you are craving more you can catch the trailer and some art after the break.

Dragon Quest VI Dated

Dragon Quest VI
Nintendo’s all aflutter announcing that Japan’s exclusive access to Dragon Quest VI is coming to an end, with Realms of Revelation hitting the DS in North America next year – February 14, 2011 to be specific. I know many of you will have been waiting a very long time for this announcement.

As sweet as this news is, I still don’t recommend trying to pass this off as a Valentine’s gift to your sweetheart, unless your significant other is awesome, then by all means proceed.

Also catch the trailer after the break.

Trailer Park – Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection

Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection
Square-Enix’s site for the Japanese PSP title bringing together Final Fantasy IV and The After Years is go, so screenshots are making the rounds today along with the trailer, which you can catch after the break.

Regardless of your stance on Final Fantasy revisits, I hope we can all agree that airships are still as cool as ever.

Hydrophobia Pure

Hydrophobia Pure
Dark Energy Digital’s episodic action title caused a sizable divide when it hit Xbox LIVE Arcade earlier this year, with plenty of outlets calling it broken while others called it inventive, and plenty more fell somewhere in-between the extremes.

I was anticipating some changes for the next installment, but today the studio announced an overhaul for the first episode based on critical and community feedback. Launching tomorrow, Hydrophobia Pure is a free update for those that already own the game, and a price reduced title for those that haven’t taken the plunge – the game will move from 1200 Microsoft points to 800.

The studio also released a developer diary showcasing changes made, which you can catch after the break – you can also catch a rather large list of retooled features at the official site here.

Regarding Anniversaries

Super Mario Bros 25th Anniversary
I wouldn’t have anticipated Mario tossing his trademark hat into the ring for the most divisive release of 2010, but here we are. The 25th Anniversary Edition, which essentially wraps a book and CD around the SNES release of Super Mario All-Stars has produced equal shares of grumblings and indifference from some acquaintances this week, while at other places, Eurogamer comes to mind, you can hear people rustling pitchforks over the release and review.

Odd as it may sound, at no point did I stop to consider this a game release, or something that was reviewable – just a commemorative grab that made it to North America in time for the holidays and potentially prettied up the shelf. All-Stars simply fills the inside of the box to justify the package getting space on retail shelves – if it was just a random box of Mario swag, where on earth would poor Nintendo stock it after all?

In some ways the release could come across as something better suited to Club Nintendo, but then of course it would cost one hundred times more. In other ways the release could have offered more not only from the Mario library to create a truly commemorative game, but also as a videogame release, seeing as that is the medium Mario is celebrating his place as a founding institution of.

What say you sugarfiends?
