Nintendo Nails It

Nintendo Press Conference
When Reggie walked out on stage this morning, his key points were about technology as a tool, and that as impressive as technology can seem during a week like E3, it’s the experience that matters – requiring a balance that matches technology with game design to create the games that can create memorable experiences.

After several years of doubts and speculation about what courting an expanding casual market meant for the long time gamer, there was less banter and awkward jokes, replaced by a morning of titles that really do travel across the board with stops at all points in between – all of the announcements leading us toward the first reveal of the 3DS.

The bombardment of hands-on reports and E3 assets has begun.

  1. My budget just skyrocketed after seeing all the 1st party games to be released by Nintendo for the Wii and DS from now until December 2010… and that’s not even taking into consideration what the 3DS will cost as well as it’s game.

One thing I did realize is the 3DS (yay for the name sticking!) will continue using carts which I think is a key point for a handheld.

Keep up the great work Jamie.

  2. I missed most of the 3DS info. Did it mention playing DS games? I see that EdEN just said it will play carts (which was the only way I’d jump on board) so that is a good thing. Did you guys get to see it in action? If so… how was the 3D effect? Do you think it will be Virtual Boy headache inducing?

The only game that got me excited was Zelda, but then I quickly realized that it (probably) won’t have a left handed option. (Here we go again!) I wish I could get Nintendo’s attention and work with them or explain to their Dev Teams about the importance of that.

Other then that I was surprised by the Metal Gear Solid 3DS & Resident Evil 3DS. Which I will be looking forward to. I don’t really care about any of the other Nintendo games, Kirby might be fun, but it name fails especially being shown right after Epic Mickey… Epic Yarn.

  3. So far the only “bitchy” preview I’ve read of the 3DS was by Brian Crecente over at Kotaku (the core to the hard to the HD). It uses a same slot to play both DS, DSi exclusive and 3DS carts. 3DS carts have a max size of 2 GB (capital B). So far that’s all I got from previews, press releases, etc.

The RE 3DS game looked reaaaally good. Closer to RE5 than RE4. The 3DS is one powerful piece of hardware…

  4. I haven’t touched one yet Ujn, but Aileen has, and attended the roundtable for me, so I suspect she’ll have many things to say about it.
