Step Aside Wii Speak?

Headbanger Headset for Wii
Since it’s mentioned with enthusiasm in our video for Conduit 2, I thought I should post an image of PDP’s Headset – which at the moment is being talked of as a great peripheral for High Voltage’s fps sequel, but I’m more immediately thinking of Monster Hunter Tri when I look at.

The headset is due out in October for $24.99. I would have posted this last week when it was more topical, but because the headset tethers gamers to the Wii via the USB cord I wanted to find out how long said cord was, which I’m now told is over 10 feet.

More specs after the break.

Features:
• Seamless, high-quality online chat for Wii gamers
• High-quality, noise cancelling microphone and earpiece
• Usable on either ear with no need for adjustment
• Aesthetically matched to the Wii console and accessories
• Mute button and volume control integrated into earpiece
• LED indicators for system live and mute functions
• Adjustable, flexible microphone boom for maximum comfort
• Fully licensed by Nintendo

  1. I think this is the best looking headset for console gaming out there. Funny that it’s for the Wii, but still, I can’t wait to try it out whenever I get Monster Hunter Tri.

  2. Well the wireless headset for the 360 is probably the best one out there.

This one looks like the DS one they released.

  3. I’m surprised they didn’t make this wireless… I think it’s pretty funny that your ear will have to be connected to your Wii. I haven’t even hooked up my Wii Speak yet, but I figure Wii Speak is much more convenient than a 10 foot wire run across my living room.

  4. Mmm, a wired headset does break the whole “new gen” feeling of the current consoles. Still, it all depends on how long the cable really is.

  5. It’s one thing being wired to your controller… it’s a whole other thing being attached to a console. I wonder if people will forget they’re attached to their Wii and get up and walk away only to pull their Wii off the shelf!

  6. I’m intrigued by the headset, but given that there’s no software for it (I assume since I’ve not seen it mentioned), doesn’t this mean that the games have to build their own chat system to support this hardware? I’m afraid that it’ll be another under-used Wii peripheral.

  7. I imagine it works just like Wii Speak does and that any game that supports Wii Speak also supports this as well. I’m not sure how many games support it though.
